No Doubt’s comeback album, it seems, has been rumoured for an age — so long that we started to hear rumours about the rumours. Finally it was confirmed, and the announcement of their next LP Push & Shove was accompanied by the unveiling of comeback single ‘Settle Down’. That’s right — Queen Gwen and the team are back.
While ‘Settle Down’ doesn’t really sound like a classic No Doubt track due to lacking their trademark ska influence, it still fits all the elements that the band were known and loved for. Benefiting from dance maestro Diplo’s deft touch, ‘Settle Down’ is a funky, up tempo, pop/rock and even dance-hall influenced track.
No Doubt evidently aren’t feeling the pressure to juggle with their style in order to fit in with what’s going on in the top 40 today. Fans will appreciate what’s going on here, and perhaps they should just appreciate the fact that they’re not pulling a Muse and making a dubstep comeback album.
